NIZATIDINE-ORAL (nye-ZAT-ih-deen)

Axid
USES:
Nizatadine blocks stomach acid secretions. It is used to treat and
prevent ulcers, to treat a heartburn and stomach disorder known as
GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disorder), and to treat conditions
associated with excess acid secretion.
HOW TO TAKE AXID:
AXID may be taken without regard to meals. Do not increase your
dose, take this more often than prescribed or stop taking this
without first consulting your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Sleepiness, fatigue or sweating may occur. If these effects continue
or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if
you develop:
rapid or pounding heartbeat, diarrhea, pale stools, mental
confusion, easy bruising, vision changes. In the unlikely event you
have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention
immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include:
rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice
other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of:
liver or kidney disease, allergies (including drug allergies).
Smoking may cause intestinal problems (e.g., ulcer) to reoccur,
hindering the effects of AXID. Elderly persons may be more sensitive
to the effects of this medication. Tell your doctor if you are
pregnant before using AXID. Nizatidine is excreted into breast milk.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription
medications you are taking, including:
itraconazole, ketoconazole. Do not start or stop any medicine
without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center
or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include
difficulty breathing, fast heartbeat, tremors, vomiting,
restlessness, weakness, fatigue, or dizziness.
NOTES:
For best results, AXID is often used along with lifestyle changes
such as stress-reduction programs, exercise and dietary changes.
Talk to your healthcare professional about changes that you can
benefit from. Laboratory tests may be done periodically while taking
AXID to monitor results and prevent side effects.
MISSED DOSE:
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if
it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose
and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up"
the dose to catch up.
STORAGE:
Store at room temperature (59 to 86 degrees F or 15 to 30 degrees C)
away from heat and moisture.
